5 Scriptures to Combat Anger

Anger is an emotion that I am all too familiar with. I grew up in a house full of anger and carried that with me when I left the home for my undergraduate studies at Washington State University. I was a mess. It was there, nearly 20 years ago, my anger was confronted by the gentle love of Jesus and my life has never been the same. One of the most effective tools that God has shown me victory over anger is through meditating and speaking His Word over my circumstance. Today I am going to share 5 scriptures I personally use to combat anger.

5 Scriptures to Combat Anger

1. James 1:20, "For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God."

This scripture really helps keep me in check when I am tempted to give into anger. If I want to be more like Jesus each day, I need to make a conscious decision to do things that line up with His righteousness. If I give into the sin of anger I am in essence working directly against God, and I don't want this to be the case. While none of us are perfect, it is the everyday decisions that get us to a place of victory in Christ.

2. Proverbs 14:29, "He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly."

I don't know about you, but I don't want to be known for exalting foolishness. I would much rather display patience and great understanding in my marriage and to my children. This scripture always gets my perspective right and allows me to think before I do anything out of character.
