Fresh Eggs! Family Business

We don't live on a farm, but that doesn't stop our kids from selling fresh eggs! Chelsea and I bought a few chicks for our toddlers as an experiment in backyard fun. Now we have over 20 and they're using them to start a family business!

Long before "free-range" and "organic" eggs were chichi and pricey, families were raising, Fil-A'ing, and scrambling these natural barnyard delicacies for free. Our neighbors love the doorstep delivery of beautiful brown, white, and blue eggs from bright-eyed children. A good product at a good price.

Our kids are learning the value of God's gracious resources, the free enterprise system, and how to manage money. Respectfulness, cheerfulness, honesty, and hard work are the magic ingredients to making any good business profitable, and this egg business is teaching them early. I love to see their creativity and enthusiasm.

The only downside is that I think I could buy enough eggs at the store to feed our family for a month for the price of a week's worth of chicken feed. Hmmm ... I'll have to re-check the math. Maybe this idea isn't all it's cracked up to be.
