Heavenly Father, You are a good Father who loves us unconditionally. You love us even more than we love our own children. You hold the world in the palm of your hands and you have shown us the right way to live. We have the awesome privilege of coming to you in prayer, not because of how great we are or anything that we have done, but because of who You are.
As our children wake up each morning and get dressed for their day of school, give them the grace they will need to face the temptations, trials, and struggles that may come their way this year. Help us as parents to prepare them for the battle that is out there but that is most importantly raging in their own hearts, for we do not wrestle against flesh and blood but of against the darkness and spiritual forces of evil (Eph 6:12).
Help us to remind our children to put on their armor every day before heading out the door. Protect their hearts, minds, ears, eyes, and lips from the delicacies that look desirable on the outside, but will bite them in the end and bring pain and destruction. When they see wrong, help them to stand up for truth and to be a beacon of light, even when everyone around them is giving in to what seems best in their own eyes.
Teach them humility, to love their friends as they would love themselves. To love others who look and act differently and to be children who will advocate for their friends and classmates who are looked down upon and treated unfairly. Give them the courage to be brave and to be willing to do your will whatever it takes, even if they are the only one.
